April 2026 Update | Writing, Life, and Freebies

Hi there, everyone! Thank you for coming to my blog.

Honestly, if you’re here and reading this, I consider it a type of small miracle because this blog has been abandoned for some time. While I was out living life and doing things, this blog wasn’t being updated very much, but I just wanted to take some time now and let you all know what’s been going on and what’s new in the world of K.M. Bennett.

You may have seen in my last blog post that I was pregnant. I had the baby, and everything went great, and I even had a successful VBAC. My family has been doing great. My oldest has adjusted to being the older sibling quite well. It’s been a couple years now and I’m just getting my footing on getting back into my regular writing routine and continuing to grow my writing career.

Newsletter

One thing that I’ve been doing in the last couple of years is growing my Substack newsletter, Having Written with K.M. Bennett. I recently achieved a milestone of 100 subscribers! So that’s one of the first things I wanted to tell you about if you’re coming to this blog. I do plan to update this blog every now and then with new stuff, but if you want to be in the know on the latest and greatest, you really should join my Substack newsletter because that is where I’m going to be doing the most frequent updates, and that way you can stay in touch with me more often. Also, I have a lot of perks to offer from joining my newsletter.

For the readers: By subscribing, you can get my free fiction in your inbox when I write new short stories,

For fellow writers, I also have a section called Pens Down: Articles on Writing where I write content just for the inspiration and betterment of my fellow writers.

So that is already a great value. But in addition to that, when you sign up for my Substack newsletter, you can get some freebies.

If you’re interested in a free tracking worksheet for your writing, you can sign up via this link to get that free worksheet. That’ll help you track your writing habits. Additionally, I offer subscribers a free copy of the mini PDF version of my new Writers Restorative Workbook, which is a workbook meant to help writers rest and restore while staying connected to their craft. You can get that free mini workbook by signing up for my newsletter via this link.

Dreadful Dozen: Twelve Tales of Horror

I have published a collection of short stories called Dreadful Dozen: Twelve Tales of Horror. Many of the stories are reprints of stories that I published previously on podcasts or in short fiction anthologies, and I’ve collected them all here for your reading pleasure. It’s been getting some good reviews. For example, here is what one reader had to say:

“This was a great collection of horror stories that any horror lover would enjoy. Definitely recommend!”

The Writer’s Restorative

For my writer friends, I recently published The Writers Restorative, which is a workbook where I really blended my love of inspiring others with my love for writing. It is my love letter to the writing community that has supported me so much through the years. I’m really excited to be able to offer this to the writing community and I’ve been very humbled by the reviews that I’ve received on Goodreads and Amazon. For example, here are some words from readers:

“I was behind on my book deadline and feeling pretty dang overwhelmed. This book is a combination of things: it’s a guide, a journal, and a stress break all wrapped up in a nicely packaged toolkit. I found it most helpful to use when I was feeling buried. Just a single meditation or coloring a page was enough to dig myself back out and get to work. It’s a great tool for writers.”

-Amazon review

“The book literally embraces writers, guiding them through the most common challenges of the profession — such as deadlines, stress, and the pressures surrounding them — while offering suggestions on how to stay focused on your own goals and to remember or rediscover the inspiration that lives inside you and surrounds your world.

It reminds us that every writer moves to their own creative rhythm and gently deconstructs the notion that someone is “not yet a writer” simply because they haven’t achieved all the goals they set for themselves. Instead, it invites the perspective that anyone who inspires is already, by nature, a writer — someone whose stories will reach readers, touch hearts, and have the power to transform lives.”

Haunted in Frostbend

I am currently working on self-publishing my first horror novel. I was working on this novel before I had my second baby. And I was shopping at around to agents at the time, but now I decided that I’m going to self publish it and I want this book to be out in the world.

One thing I’m really excited about is some collaboration with an artist for this project. For my cover, I hired an artist to create original watercolor art and I am so excited about that process. Again, sign up for my newsletter if you want to see that cover first when it is revealed.

Limited opportunity only for April 2026:

Would you like to be part of my ARC team for this book? An “Advanced Review Copy” or “ARC” is a common practice in the publishing industry where readers get a free copy of an early release version of a book, and the author hopes for some honest reviews. If you want to join, there is still time! Fill out this form to be considered.

The Haunting of Watermill Valley

Did you know you can read one of my novels for free, as a webnovel? Yes! So, there’s a lot more I could tell you and a lot more that’s going on, but I just wanted to do a quick update for now. I also want to thank you for being here. I’ve been writing for a long time. I’ve had this website for a long time, and for those of you that keep coming back and viewing my content, I just want to say thank you. And please sign up to my newsletter.
