It seems like almost everyone in the writing community is talking about AI right now, and things are typically quite heated when this subject comes up.
I personally try my best to support human artists and writers. I avoid AI-generated images as best I can, and I hired a human artist to hand-paint the art for my latest book. I partnered with a human audio producer to make the upcoming audiobook for my first novel as well.
And for me, supporting human artists and writers also means not going out of my way to villainize other writers who use AI in limited capacities, such as for planning or research.
At the extreme level, I would never condone using AI to write for you. Why even be a writer if you don’t want to write?
But what I’ve found is that there is very little nuance in the ongoing conversations about AI, and things tend to dissolve into emotionally charged accusations and the creation of enemies before even the most basic things, such as common terminology, are agreed upon.
If you feel confused and overwhelmed by all the conversations about AI, I wanted to share some podcasts episodes I’ve listened to recently. I’ve added them to this list because I either found the conversation interesting, or because they covered a subject I don’t hear much dialogue about (such as dictation, or how AI systems are reading our book blurbs on Amazon), and I think others might find them interesting as well.
Note that I’m not condoning any of the specific viewpoints presented in these episodes, but I’m just presenting them for your listening, and you can make up your own mind about what feels good in your artistic practice.
So, here it is, a “curriculum” of sorts, with podcast episodes all on the theme of AI in the fiction realm. These are linked to Spotify for your convenience.

Here’s a bonus idea: Go outside and take a walk while you listen! Touch some grass. Remember to connect with what’s real. It will be good for your body and soul. 🙂
If you listen to any of these, will you leave a comment and share your thoughts? I would love to hear if any of this helps you or introduces you to a new idea. Also, if you have suggestions for podcast episodes to add to the list, I would also love to hear that!
Happy Writing! And yes, writing is still worth doing. Even today, with all the new challenges against us.
You’ve got this.
